How do Myrtle Beach school educators apply for and receive a grant from The Foundation?

All Myrtle Beach cluster school principals and teachers are eligible to apply for funding through a Foundation educational mini-grant. Grant application forms can be obtained from the school's principal or down oloaded from this web site. The application outlines the objectives, proposed activites, budget for the project and an evaluation strategy. The completed grant application is reviewed by the individual's School Improvement Council and then forwarded to The Foundation board for final approval.
Funds are allocated to the six Myrtle Beach area schools based on their 45th day of enrollment number.
The Foundation also works and avenue to secure material donations whenever possible and has created many methonds for accepting donations. For more information see Ways You Can Help

Grants awarded during the 2000-2001 school year include:

Myrtle Beach Primary: A grant designated to support the Fine Arts Day program. Activities organized by Linda Shields, Music Instructor, included a storyteller, Mexican band, jugglers, the MBI Chorus and performers from the symphony.

Myrtle Beach Intermediate: Funding to purchase Short Stories novel sets, which will be used to conduct group literature studies within the classrooms. Technology Specialist, Mary Beth Freeman, who initiated the grant, outlined some of the benefits for using preparatory activities with the novel sets to increase critical thinking skills, problem solving strategies and verbal and math logic reasoning.

 

 

Grants awarded during the 2001-2002 school year include:

Myrtle Beach Middle: A grant initiated from their science teachers to purchase the science program Sciencesaurus. This innovative and instructional science book will enhance the existing curriculum as well as serve as another reference supplement to the current science book.

Myrtle Beach Elementary: Sonya Hobgood, the Curriculum Specialist, submitted a grant for The "Author's Collection". This purchase of a collection of books written by a variety of authors will be used in the classrooms. In studying these books the students' will learn to compare and contrast each author's style, increase awareness of the author's purpose as well as reinforce and supplement the English Language Arts curriculum.

Myrtle Beach Primary: The Foundation was pleased to provide funding assistance to support their successful and entertaining Fine Arts Day. This annual event coordinated by Linda Shields, is very popular with the school and exposes the students to a variety of cultural activities. The students are able to participate in a multitude of events ranging from storytelling, to dancing and music. It is a daylong educational event that provides amazing entertainment.

Myrtle Beach Primary
We are pruchasing a new video system for the production of onsite media prgrams including "Good Morning Myrtle Beach Primary" and classroom videos. Students are provided with daily updates on school activities, review of Lifeskills and are recognized for outstanding achievements as welll as birthday, etc. through this program.

Myrtle Beach Elementary School
As we continue to purchase reading materials for out students, we are constantly analyzing the spectrum of difficulty to cover all ranges of academic ability. Consequently, the money received through the Education Foundation from The Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach literacy grant was used to enhance our literacy collection to serve more students at Myrtle Beach Elementary. From the Verizon technology grant we were able to purchase additional televisions for the classrooms to ensure all students are able to watch our student produced morning show. This grant will also aid in the work our studnets are going on power point presentations for parents and visitors entering our school detailing information about school events, celebrations and general information. We were also able to update our existing overhead projectors and buy additional projectors for our teachers to facilitate classroom instruction for our students.

Myrtle Beach Middle School
This year Myrtle Beach Middle School purchased educational materials with the generous contributions arranged through the Myrtle Beach Education Foundation. Using the funds from a technology grant from Verizon we were able to purchase the folloing items: 5 microscopes, 2 Avery Keys which allow for the connection of computers to TV screens in the classroom, 1 Videos Flex microscope, a devise that projects an image on a computer for viewing by a larger audience, Ed Design enrichment materials for Literacy for all grades and levels (Critical Rea Proficiency) for the entire student body and 5 over head carts.
Rotary's contribution of $300.00 was used for the purchase of materials for instruction for all students during ACE and After-school tutorial programs - "Strategies to Achieve Reading Success Programs".

Academy of Arts, Science and Technology
Students in Mr. Clark's History class were thrilled to receive $300.00 worth of reference books for use in the classroom. These books will be available to the entire student body at the Academy.
